Become an American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard

 

Looking for a rewarding job, a way to build leadership skills, or an opportunity to make a difference in your community? The YMCA of Broome County is offering an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification course that will prepare you to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies with confidence.

This comprehensive certification course includes lifeguarding skills, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and first aid training. Upon successful completion, participants will earn an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification valid for two years.

Class Schedule

July 24-26, 2026

  • Friday: 5:00 PM-9:00 PM

  • Saturday: 8:00 AM-7:00 PM

  • Sunday: 8:00 AM-7:00 PM

Cost: $350

Prerequisites

Participants must:

  • Be at least 15 years old by the final day of class

  • Swim 250 yards continuously using freestyle and breaststroke

  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only their legs

  • Complete a timed brick retrieval in 1 minute, 40 seconds

  • Complete the required online coursework prior to the in-person training sessions. Course access is emailed after registration
