In September 2022, Steve Blabac decided to join the YMCA as a means to mitigate the effects of his prostate cancer treatments. He had received positive recommendations about the YMCA from family members who were already Y members, and its convenient location made it an appealing choice. Little did he know the remarkable improvements he would see in his Body, Mind, and Spirit as a result of this choice.

February is American Heart Month, and with recently published research indicating blood pressure control has worsened in both men an woman since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important to use this month to get a blood pressure screening and focus on becoming heart healthy.

Anyone can drown. No one should. July 25 is World Drowning Prevention Day, set forth by The United Nations (UN) and World Health Organization (WHO). The YMCA of Broome County is joining in on raising drowning prevention awareness as a public health issue.
The sound of a racquetball being shot across the court, ricocheting back to the players has long been synonymous with many YMCAs across the country. In 1950, YMCA volunteer Joe Sobek invented racquetball “as an alternative to squash and handball,” according to the YMCA of USA.
