The Y partners with the Junior NBA

Youth Basketball

October 9, 2018

The YMCA of Broome County is excited to announce that we have partnered with the Junior NBA for our Youth Basketball Leagues.

The Junior NBA presented by Under Armour, is the NBA’s youth basketball participation program that teaches the fundamental skills of the game at the grassroots level in an effort to help grow and improve the youth basketball experience. The program aims to develop a lifelong passion for the game of basketball while instilling core values including teamwork, respect and sportsmanship.

Being a partner organization, we will follow the Junior NBA pledge, “To share the game of basketball with youth across the world by teaching skills, values, and wellness in a positive and fun environment”. The Junior NBA’s holistic approach is intended to strengthen the culture of youth basketball, teach life lessons, and empower youth to live a full and healthy life. The Junior NBA believes this philosophy leads to developing complete and well-rounded basketball players and individuals.

The YMCA’s Youth Basketball leagues start October 22nd and end December 15th. This program is for ages 5-14. Participants will have a weekly practice and games on Saturday at the West Family YMCA. We will also be offering a “Little Dribblers” program for ages 3-4. Little Dribblers will be on Saturday’s only starting October 27th.

The YMCA of Broome County is seeking volunteers interested in coaching youth sports. Volunteers will be taught the Junior NBA instructional curriculum, which has been designed to better the youth basketball experience for players, parents and coaches.
