Binghamton Renovation
April 9, 2026 - Binghamton YMCA Renovation Update
Our Vision
As part of our long-term strategic planning, the YMCA Board of Directors has made the decision to expand housing services to better meet growing community needs. This project reflects our commitment to strengthening our impact while enhancing the overall facility.
What’s Planned
- Expansion of emergency, transitional, and permanent housing
- Continued inclusion of a gym and workout space as part of the new renovation, available for all
- Increased capacity to support more individuals in need
Current Impact
- We currently provide 132 beds each night, including 45 temporary beds
- Our facility operates at 99% occupancy
- We deliver over 47,500 nights of safe, supported care annually
With this expansion, we aim to increase that to approximately 60,000 nights of care each year
Where We Are Now
This project is a key part of our strategic direction, and we are currently in the early planning stages:
- Building a development team of key professionals
- Exploring initial design concepts
- Preparing to pursue state funding opportunities
What Comes Next
- Finalize project plans
- Submit applications to secure funding
- Move into construction once funding is approved
Timeline
This is a long-term project. We anticipate:
- At least 2 years before construction begins
- No disruption to current YMCA services during this time
