One Day Around the Fire
YMCA of Broome County Joins Campfire Across America
On July 22, 2026, the YMCA of Broome County joined Ys across the country for Campfire Across America, a one-day celebration centered on connection, reflection, and belonging.
For generations, campfires have brought people together to share stories, build relationships, and create a sense of community. At the Y, fostering those moments of connection has always been at the heart of our mission.
Campfire Across America shines a light on that tradition by uniting Ys nationwide in a shared experience. While our campfire looked a little different, a flat, cardboard campfire displayed in our lobby, it carried the same meaning. Members shared stories of connection and belonging by writing on paper flames. The display even included a picnic basket filled with grab-and-go s'mores, which had disappeared by the end of the day, proving they were a hit! Some reminisced about singing and stargazing around campfires, while others reflected on the bonds they share with family, friends, and their community.
Our YMCA Summer Camp campers even used the sun as their "campfire" to make solar s'mores, proving that the spirit of a campfire isn't about the flames, it's about bringing people together with purpose.
With Ys in all 50 states participating, Campfire Across America demonstrated the power of community on a national scale. We are grateful to everyone who joined us on July 22 and helped create a day of connection that reached far beyond our own Y.
