Small Steps, Big Impact
The YMCA of Broome County Promotes Heart Health this February
This American Heart Month, the Y is helping Broome County take charge of their heart health, one heartbeat at a time. February is American Heart Month, and the YMCA of Broome County is here to help you show your heart some love.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for men and women in the U.S., and nearly 1 in 2 adults has high blood pressure - often without knowing it. According to the American Heart Association, blood pressure control has gotten worse since the pandemic, making now the perfect time to check in on your heart health.
The good news? You don’t have to make big changes overnight to make a big difference. Simple actions like getting your blood pressure checked, cutting back on sodium, eating more fruits and veggies, and moving your body daily can all help lower your risk of heart disease.
At the YMCA of Broome County, we’re making heart health easier - and more accessible - than ever with local programs designed to support every step of your journey:
Local Fitness & Nutrition Programs
From heart-pumping group fitness classes to Nutrition 101, 2.0 and adult sports programs and pickleball, the Y offers something for every heart. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to push your limits, we’ve got the tools, trainers, and support to keep you moving in the right direction.
Here in Broome County, we’ve seen hundreds of success stories proving that small lifestyle changes can lead to major health wins.
“Your heart works hard for you every single day,” said Will Purdy, Community Health Director at the YMCA of Broome County. “American Heart Month is the perfect time to return the favor. Whether you’re tracking your blood pressure, cutting back on salt, or just getting more steps in, the Y is here to support your health journey.”
