National Cancer Prevention Month – Get Moving!
February 4, 2025
According to research, 4 out of 10 cancer cases in the United States are associated with preventable risk factors. Excess body weight, poor diet and physical inactivity are factors that contribute to increased cancer risk – and for National Cancer Prevention Month, the Y wants to remind you that we’re here to help. No matter where you are on your health and wellness journey, the YMCA of Broome County is here for you every step of the way!
Wellness Orientation
The Y will set you up for health and wellness success with our initial fitness orientation. Scheduled at a time convenient for you, dedicated Y staff will assess you current health and wellness, help you understand your fitness strengths and limitations, work with you to develop goals, introduce you to fitness equipment and connect you with the right people and programs.

Group Fitness Classes
From Zumba to Aqua Aerobics; strength training to yoga, the YMCA of Broome County offers a variety of group fitness classes for adults, seniors and even youth! Focus on your health and wellness in a supportive group setting and reach your overall fitness goals!
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA focuses on you – the whole person – not the disease. The free, 12-week program for cancer survivors meets twice a week for 90 minutes, using traditional exercise methods to ease you back into fitness and help you maintain a healthy weight. Plus, learn about wellness, stress reduction techniques and how to continue healthful habits after the program has ended. Just as important, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA encourages a warm spirit of community – a safe, comfortable place for you to build companionship with others affected by cancer and share stories of inspiration.
