I'm a Big Y Fan!

“I’m a big “Y” fan!” Megan proudly stated after she and her dad, Joe, completed their 11 a.m. Joints in Motion Plus class with Tiffany. Then she named her other regular Y classes: Zumba on Monday evenings at West Family, Boot Camp on Wednesday evening at Binghamton, Muscle Toning at noon on Thursday. Her additional workouts sometimes included swimming, yoga and the Wellness Center.

Then Megan listed what she attained from her “totally fun workouts” at the YMCA of Broome County. She said the classes helped her with core and balance. She emphasized Boot Camp was the most challenging and offered “very good core work and stretches.” She added other benefits: “learning to concentrate, follow directions and making lots of friends of all different ages.”

Joe is also a big “Y” fan. He said he started going to the “Y” when he was 6 years old and he is now almost 70. About 6 years ago, Pam, his YMCA instructor, helped Megan get involved in Y-fitness classes after she graduated from high school and began her Self Directed program. This program promotes skill development, community integration and independence.

Megan beamed with the confidence she has gained, “I am unique! I love to color, paint, dance, read and walk at Otsiningo and Port Dick Parks. I do pottery classes at Roberson. And I enjoy interacting with people while hosting at the Outback Steakhouse.”
