Workout Incentive

When Diane finished her second water fitness class of the day in mid-October, she announced, “I just earned my YMCA water bottle. I already got a YMCA t-shirt. All I have left is 3 points for the pen! When she joined the YMCA of Broome County in September, the Y offered these as incentives to new members. Each visit counted as 1 point. Diane quickly earned the other 15 points.

Diane’s friend, Sue, started at the West Family YMCA in January. As a caregiver for her mom, she found the water fitness classes provided relief from her daily stresses. The friendly atmosphere made her pool time so fun she invited friends to join. Diane and her sister-in-law took her up on the offer when the YMCA ran an Open House and waived the $50 joiner fee. The extra incentive of the Membership Challenge sealed the deal.

“I was given a card with prizes I could win by just coming and participating in the first 60 days! I love a challenge. I earned all three with 2 weeks to spare. Yay, me,” she grinned.

She went on to say, “I like the fact so many different activities are included in my membership and offered throughout the day. My passion is water, so naturally all the water group exercises are my favorites. The instructors are warm and friendly. I am not pushed to compete with anyone but myself…and I am pushing to do my very best!”

All three find their friendship encourages them to come on days it would be easier to stay home…and makes the workouts more fun.
